Airbnb announces update to it's terms of service and how it affects the short-term rental owner.

As Airbnb announced earlier this month, there was a need to change elements of their Terms of Service, including the Payment Terms, and their Privacy Policy due to the exponential global and technical growth they’ve recently experienced.

The changes took effect for all new users who registered after April 16, while existing users have a little more time to accept the terms. “The updated Privacy Policy will automatically come into effect for all existing users on May 25, 2018. Your continued use of the Airbnb Platform from that day on will be subject to the new Privacy Policy. The changes of the Terms of Service and the Payments Terms of Service will go into effect for all existing users on June 27, 2018,” the Airbnb site explained.

Airbnb addressed a number of changes to include “new types of services available on Airbnb (such as Group Payments and Pay Less Up Front)”. Provisions for arbitration and their Open Homes and Airbnb Travel Credits programs were also updated.

The company also “restructured the Privacy Policy to make it shorter, more concise, and easier to read”. Additional changes addressed include new rules to comply with the General Data Protection Regulations, the upcoming EU privacy rule changes that take effect on May 25, 2018.
