New Offerings from Airbnb - Airbnb Plus
Airbnb has been busy adding new features to its offerings recently. For the high-end traveler they now have Airbnb Plus, top-of-the-line accommodations for people looking for that special visit. They are also increasing the amount of attention they pay to experiences by adding detailed information about events in the areas where they offer housing—so basically everywhere.
Airbnb Plus was launched as part of the celebration of Airbnb’s 10th year anniversary. This new product is a top-of-the-line brand of accommodations that are guaranteed to meet 100 different criteria and come with certain amenities.
Now it’s easier to find the right place every time you travel, whether it’s for a work trip, family vacation, or the adventure of a lifetime. Featured collections and two new tiers of homes will guide you to the comfort, quality, and amenities you care about the most.
The intent is to bring “new levels of comfort” to guests who want more than a place to sleep. All Airbnb Plus properties have at least a 4.8 rating and are personally inspected by a local photographer hired by Airbnb; once they pass inspection, they get a special badge displaying their new status. “Airbnb Plus is a new selection of only the highest quality homes with hosts known for great reviews and attention to detail. Every home is visited in person for a 100+ point quality inspection to ensure your comfort. Just look for the PLUS badge,” the site explains.
Some of the criteria:
● The kitchen must be stocked with cooking equipment such as pots and pans and knives and have a clean refrigerator with no stains or damage.
● The bedrooms will have an ironing board, a closet, drawers, window treatments, and beds with soft, clean bedding, and comfortable mattresses.
● The bathroom cabinets must be free of personal items; the shower, tiles and floors cannot have cracks or mildew; and there will be at least two sets of plush towels depending on the size of the property.
● Toiletries will include shampoo and bath soap.
The company “will have four new property types - boutique hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, vacation homes, and distinctive properties such as tree houses and yurts. These are in addition to the three it already has - shared spaces, private rooms, and entire homes. The listings in these categories are already on the site, but classifying them makes them easier for travelers to find,” Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky told the New York Times.
The company launched Airbnb Plus with over 2,000 listings in 13 cities (Austin, Barcelona, Cape Town, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, Milan, Rome, San Francisco, Shanghai, Sydney, Toronto) and stated they would increase that number to over 75,000 homes in 50 destinations by the end of the year. Homes average over $200 a night on Airbnb Plus, compared to around $100 a night for regular listings.
In late spring, the company will be introducing Beyond by Airbnb, luxury accommodations that make use of Luxury Retreats, the home rental company they bought last year.
